June was a month filled with creativity, new techniques, and adding beautiful handmade pieces to my wardrobe. From trying my hand at bag making to sewing breezy summer garments, each project brought something unique to my sewing journey. Here’s a look at everything I made this month.
Jenesis Crossbody Bag by Crafty Lanae
I kicked off June with the Jenesis Crossbody Bag by Crafty Lanae, and it was such a fun project to make. Bag making always challenges me to step outside of garment sewing and sharpen different skills, from installing hardware to working with structured materials.
I’m so happy with how this bag turned out. It’s the perfect everyday size for carrying my essentials while still looking stylish. There’s something incredibly rewarding about walking out the door with a handbag that I made myself, and I know this won’t be my last bag-making project.
The Carmen Top by Patterns By Dee (Twice!)
Next up was the Carmen Top by Patterns By Dee—a pattern I loved so much that I made it twice!
The first version came together beautifully, and before I knew it, I was cutting out fabric for another. That’s always a sign of a great pattern. The fit is flattering, the construction is enjoyable, and it’s incredibly versatile. It pairs effortlessly with jeans, shorts, skirts, or linen pants, making it a staple piece for my handmade wardrobe.
Making the pattern a second time also gave me the opportunity to refine my sewing techniques and appreciate how quickly a familiar pattern comes together. I can definitely see more Carmen Tops in my future.
Breathe Kaftan by Armena Sews
After the Carmen Tops, I sewed the Breathe Kaftan by Armena Sews, and the name couldn’t be more fitting. It’s light, airy, and perfect for warm summer weather. The relaxed silhouette, beautiful drape, deep V-back, and in-seam pockets make it both comfortable and effortlessly stylish. This is one of those garments that’s easy to throw on whether I’m relaxing at home, heading out for brunch, or packing for a weekend getaway. Comfort doesn’t have to mean sacrificing style, and this kaftan proves exactly that.
New Look 6206 Summer Dress
I wrapped up the month with the New Look 6206 Summer Dress, and it was the perfect way to finish my June sewing.
There’s something timeless about a simple summer dress. It’s an easy, one-piece outfit that’s comfortable, feminine, and perfect for warm days. Just add sandals and a few accessories, and you’re ready to go.
This dress fits seamlessly into my handmade wardrobe and is sure to get plenty of wear throughout the season.
McCall’s 7757 – My Tried and True
I can’t forget about my McCall’s 7757—my true tried-and-true pattern. This one always comes through for me, no matter the season or fabric choice. It’s one of those dependable makes that I can return to again and again when I want something that fits well, sews up smoothly, and never disappoints.
Having a reliable TNT (tried-and-true) pattern like this is such an important part of building a handmade wardrobe. It takes the guesswork out of sewing and always delivers a garment I know I’ll wear.
Final Thoughts
Looking back, June was a wonderful month of sewing. I expanded my skills with a handmade crossbody bag, created two versatile tops that I’ll wear again and again, added a breezy kaftan that’s perfect for summer, and finished with a classic summer dress.
Every project reminds me why I enjoy sewing so much. It’s about more than making clothes and accessories—it’s about creating pieces that reflect my personal style, fit beautifully, and tell the story of time spent making something with my own hands.
